In the territory surrounding the camping there are several nice mountain lakes where local species live (such as the triton) and you can also see bigger artificial lakes which gather the waters coming from the creeks that cross the valleys in the park.
In particular, Campotosto Lake is famous for both sport fishing and professional fishing.
The lake is entirely located in the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park and it’s the destination of sports people and tourists, especially in summertime. The main attraction is the road around the lake which runs for 40 km and links the local villages; its being flat makes it ideal for cycling. Other possible activities in the lake area are footing, trekking and horseback riding. The latter has been developed thanks to the inclusion of Campotosto in the Gran Sasso horse track for a total of 300 km provided with equipment. In the lake waters it is also possible to practice windsurf, kitesurf and kayak.
This artificial basin was built by blocking the Castellano creek and from here you can visit marvelous places. It is located on the boarder between Marche and Abruzzo and its area is full of big sized ciprinidi fishes. The first thing that strikes who arrives at the lake is the beautiful landscape which surrounds the waters. And surprises are not finished yet: approaching to the shore you will see clear waters, colored of an intense green that reflects the vegetation around. Then the great quantity of big size ciprinidi fishes makes this lake a great fishing place and complete the beauty of this area which defining fascinating is not enough. The lake depth needs to be considered as well, especially here at Talvacchia because it can vary much depending on the season. Waters are still clear and landscape is very nice; shores are easy to walk even they don’t reach the entire lake perimeter; in certain periods of they year they may appear bare, while in the summer grass grows; nevertheless they are mainly rocky or sandy, without gravel.
